Creek Week Impact

The Creek Week Cleanup began in 2014 as a way to encourage citizens to help remove litter and debris from our land and waters, raise awareness of watershed health, and to foster a sense of community. Now, in 2023, Creek Week has grown into Colorado’s largest watershed-wide cleanup.

Together, we have removed over 140 tons of trash over the last 9 years. That's 308,650 + pounds of rubbish removed from the Fountain Creek Watershed.

This incredible accomplishment couldnt have been done with out the hard work and dedication of the 19,900+ people who have volunteered on cleanup crews.

From cleanups to forest health projects, the Distirct supports nearly 100 different events during these 9 days in the following communities:

– City of Colorado Springs

– City of Green Mountain Falls

– City of Fountain

– City of Manitou Springs

– City of Monument

– City of Palmer Lake

– City of Pueblo

– City of Woodland Park

– City of Trinidad

Participants include individuals, businesses, neighborhood organizations, scouts, churches, school groups, Friends groups, colleges, cities, and towns.  Don’t see your community listed?  Contact us to learn how to participate.

Creek Week Testimonials

“Creek Week not only connects the community with our local waterways; it elevates very relevant regional conversations about the health of these waterways and the need to protect the regional watershed.” - Christine Lowenberg, Executive Director of The Greenway Fund
“My favorite thing about Creek Week is witnessing people make a difference in their community. Volunteering with students passionate about serving others by picking up their trash is a truly humbling and rewarding experience. It gives me a great sense of pride knowing that cleaning one waterway can make communities in Colorado Springs, along the Colorado and Arkansas Rivers, and off the Gulf of Mexico more beautiful.” - Alex Greanias, UCCS student and 4x volunteer for Creek Week
“Creek Week is an annual event that allows people of all ages to come together to help clean and beautify our streams. People care – that makes the difference. Let’s all get involved, however we can, to make our waterways a treasure to be enjoyed by generations to come.” - Larry Small, Past Executive Director of the Fountain Creek Watershed, Flood Control & Greenway District
