Project Summary

The Project is located on Fountain Creek in northern Pueblo County along Barr Property, approximately 2.6 miles south of Pinon Bridge and immediately west of Overton Road. Fountain Creek has migrated laterally to the east, creating steep cut banks and altering the historic main channel alignment of the creek. The creek has shifted into the Barr property, resulting in loss of agricultural lands and subsequent adverse sediment loading into Fountain Creek. The southern segment began to shift east during the April 31, 1999 flood event causing the relocation of Overton Road to the east. Erosion at this location is threatening an overhead power line with one pole within a few feet of the cut bank.

Currently, in design, the primary project goals are bank stabilization and erosion reduction. Project components will likely include a modified meander planform that places the channel away from the high cut banks, bank reshaping and/or hardening, significant earthwork to establish better channel geometry, and revegetation. Construction is anticipated to begin fall 2018.
